The Challenge

A Print Business Built for Walk-Ins. A Market That Had Moved Online.

Pixio MY is an all-inclusive digital printing business based in Malaysia. Their product range is broad: canvas prints, photo blocks, frames, wall art, wallpaper, stickers, fridge magnets, billboards, standees, signages, 3D product prints, vehicle wrap — a comprehensive catalogue covering personalised photo products through to large-format commercial printing.

Their operation had been built around a physical presence. Customers came in, placed orders, and the Pixio MY team handled the design and production. That model worked — but the market was shifting.

By 2018, it was clear that online was where print customers were going. Competitors with online platforms were accessible twenty-four hours a day, could show customers a preview before they committed to an order, and could take jobs from anywhere in the country, not just from walk-in customers. Pixio MY needed to close that gap.

The challenge was the breadth of the requirement. Going online was not simply a matter of listing products. Pixio MY needed an e-commerce platform that could handle a wide and technically complex product range, a design tool that let customers personalise their orders in real time, and a production-ready workflow that connected the online order to their physical production facility.

They needed a technology partner who understood the print industry end to end — not just a platform, but an implementation.

The Solution

A Platform Built for Every Product They Sell.

The solution: A Platform Built for Every Product They Sell.
1

Stage One: The Right Platform Foundation

The first requirement was the platform itself. Pixio MY chose DesignNBuy as their technology partner specifically because the Magento platform was the right fit for their products and business model.

Magento provided the scalability and flexibility that a wide-ranging product catalogue required. DesignNBuy built and configured the storefront: product pages, pricing, checkout, and order management — the infrastructure that would run the business online from day one.

The implementation was handled end to end by DesignNBuy, from technical consultancy on the digital transformation through to development and ongoing maintenance. Pixio MY did not need to coordinate between multiple vendors or brief multiple teams. One partner owned the full platform.

2

Stage Two: Personalised Products Online

With the platform in place, DesignNBuy integrated the designer module across Pixio MY's personalised product range. Customers can now select a product, upload their photo or artwork, configure dimensions, and see a real-time preview before placing an order — entirely within the Pixio MY storefront.

Products now available for online personalisation:

Canvas Prints & Wall Art

Canvas Prints & Wall Art

Canvas prints, photo blocks, frames, and wall art — configured online with customer artwork, previewed in accurate format before ordering.

Stickers, Standees & Signage

Stickers, Standees & Signage

Stickers, standees, billboards, and signage products — personalised in the browser with custom artwork upload and ordered directly from the storefront.

Photo Gifts & Personalised Merchandise

Photo Gifts & Personalised Merchandise

Fridge magnets, photo gifts, and branded merchandise — designed online with customer images and text, produced to print specification without a manual proof cycle.

3

Stage Three: Online Reach Beyond the Physical Shop

The result of the implementation was a fully online version of Pixio MY's business — one that could serve customers around the country, not just walk-ins in Malaysia.

The Magento platform has been generating traffic and new customers since launch. Customers who would not have found Pixio MY through a physical presence can now discover them online, browse the full product range, personalise their order, and check out — without any involvement from the Pixio MY team until the order reaches production.

That reach is structural: the online platform works around the clock, across geographies, without adding headcount to the customer-facing operation.

SOUND FAMILIAR?

If Your Print Business Is Not Online, Your Capacity Is Capped at Your Physical Location.

A physical print shop serves the customers who walk in. An online platform serves everyone who searches. The question is not whether to go online — it is whether the platform you build can actually handle the range of products you sell.

Going online requires more than a product listing

A print business going online needs a platform that reflects what it actually does — configurable products, real-time preview, personalisation capability, and a workflow that connects the customer's design to production. An e-commerce store without those capabilities is not a web-to-print platform. It is a contact form with a shop attached.

A wide product range needs a platform built for complexity

The broader the product catalogue, the more demanding the technical requirement. Large-format printing, photo products, personalised merchandise, and commercial signage each have different configuration needs. A web-to-print platform built for print handles all of them — a generic e-commerce platform handles none of them well.

The designer module is a sales tool, not just a production one

When customers can design their own products — upload artwork, preview the result, and order with confidence — the design tool becomes the reason they complete the order rather than abandon it. Jonas Frisk called it "a good selling tool for our personalized prints." The ability to see the finished product is what closes the order.

Why It Matters

Digital Transformation in Print Is Not About Technology. It Is About Reach.

A platform built once runs the business every hour it is open

A platform built once runs the business every hour it is open

A physical print shop requires staff to be present. An online platform takes orders while the team is focused on production. The economics shift: the cost of serving each additional online customer is a fraction of the cost of serving a walk-in.

The right technology partner owns the full implementation

The right technology partner owns the full implementation

Going online with a complex product range requires expertise across the platform, the design tool, the product configuration, and the production workflow. A partner who has delivered implementations across hundreds of print businesses brings that knowledge ready-made — the common problems are already solved.

Long-term support is where the relationship pays off

Long-term support is where the relationship pays off

Pixio MY launched their platform in 2018. The partnership with DesignNBuy has continued since — through platform maintenance, product additions, and the disruption of COVID-19, when the DesignNBuy team worked from home and kept the support running without interruption. Jonas specifically called out the support as "phenomenal." The value of the partnership compounds over time.

Print businesses across Southeast Asia are at different stages of digital transformation. The ones who built online platforms early — like Pixio MY — now have years of operational data, customer relationships, and platform refinement that later entrants are still catching up to.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Pixio MY chose DesignNBuy because the Magento platform was the right fit for their product range and business model, and the designer module offered real-time personalisation capability for their custom print products. They needed a technology partner who could handle the full implementation — not just the storefront, but the design tool, the product configuration, and the ongoing technical support.

It lets customers personalise print products directly on the storefront — uploading artwork, configuring dimensions, and previewing the finished product before placing an order. This removes the need for customers to submit separate design files or wait for a manual proof, and gives Pixio MY a fully self-service ordering experience across their personalised product range.

DesignNBuy has been Pixio MY's technology partner since the platform launched in 2018 — handling development, maintenance, and technical support through the platform's growth.
