A ribbon is a strip of fabric with text on it. That is how it looks.
Ribbons Galore serves the events and awards market — schools, sports clubs, corporate events, ceremonies. A single order might include fifteen sashes for fifteen different award titles, each with specific text, colour, position, and year. Or a batch of badge ribbons, some with adhesive strips and some without. Or a set of custom ribbons where the client wants to preview multiple colour combinations before committing.
Under a standard e-commerce setup, none of this is possible. No award title field. No thread colour selector. No way to order six colour variants in one transaction. No preview, no proof — customers ordering blind.
That was Ribbons Galore’s situation on BigCommerce. They came to DesignNBuy not just to add a design tool, but because the platform they were on could not support the kind of ordering experience their products required.
The final phase extended the system outward to the customer’s team and inward to Ribbons Galore’s production workflow.
Customers could save designs and share them via a unique URL for collaborative review and approval — letting B2B buyers get internal sign-off without recreating the design.
Ribbons Galore's team could access and edit designs for placed orders, update quantities, and regenerate outputs — handling revision requests without a full re-order.
Every completed design exits as a print-ready file: 300 DPI, black and white where required, transparent background. Automated job sheets for custom products and picklists for stock items mean the file that arrives in production is the file that runs.
Ribbons Galore's customisation requirements were not unusual for their category — they were standard. The platform was the constraint. Choosing a platform with the flexibility to support complex product configuration and deep tool integration is not a back-end decision — it determines what your customers can and cannot do.
When a customer has to figure out how to specify fifteen award titles across fifteen sash variants using a standard text field and a notes section, errors happen. When the system is built around the actual ordering logic — variant by variant, option by option — the customer gets it right the first time and so does production.
A purchasing manager ordering award ribbons for an organisation is not buying for themselves. The ability to save, share, and return to a design in progress is not a convenience feature. It is what makes the platform usable for the buyers who place the largest orders.
A file that needs manual adjustment before it can go to print is a file that adds time, cost, and risk to every single order. Configuring output to match production specifications from the point of order means the workflow is complete at checkout — not halfway through the production queue.
