7 Best IMG.LY Alternatives for Print and Web-to-Print Businesses (2026)

Blog article content
IMG.LY's CreativeEditor SDK (CE.SDK) is a strong editor for developers. It covers web, iOS, Android, desktop and Node.js, exports print-ready PDF/X-4 with CMYK and spot colors, and has no published price, only a quote. For print businesses, the best IMG.LY alternatives fall into three groups: editor SDKs (Polotno, Picsart), complete platforms (DesignO, PrintXpand) and production automation tools (Customer's Canvas, CHILI GraFx, Design Huddle).
People usually start looking for IMG.LY alternatives after one of three things happens.
You got the quote and want a published price to compare against.
You built the editor into your site, then realized the catalog, pricing, checkout and order handling are still on your plate.
Your team never had the developer time in the first place.
Here's the thing: IMG.LY's own print storefront page says CE.SDK doesn't include a catalog, cart, payments or fulfillment, and that those stay with your storefront. That's how an SDK works. What matters is how much of the rest you want to build.
Full disclosure: DesignO is our product. The numbers aren't a ranking. I've grouped tools by the job they do best, used the same format for every tool, and taken every detail from each vendor's own pages so you can check my work.
The seven alternatives fall into three groups:
Editor SDKs that give you a design editor to build around, the closest swap for IMG.LY: Polotno and Picsart.
Complete platforms that come with a web-to-print online designer plus pricing, ordering and production tooling: DesignO and PrintXpand.
Production automation tools built for variable data, templates and print-file generation: Customer's Canvas, CHILI GraFx and Design Huddle.
Quick comparison: IMG.LY alternatives
Tool | Type | Storefront and pricing logic | Print output | Published pricing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
IMG.LY CE.SDK | SDK | No | CMYK, spot colors, PDF/X-4 | Quote only, 30-day free trial |
Polotno | SDK | No | CMYK, bleed, crop marks, PDF/X-1a (Node) | Custom, from low hundreds |
Picsart Web to Print Editor | SDK | No | From $299 per month | |
DesignO | Platform | Yes | Preflight with Enfocus (Growth plan) | $90 or $190 per month |
PrintXpand | Platform | Yes | PDF, PNG, SVG, Illustrator | Not published |
Customer's Canvas | Platform and SDK | Production tooling, no storefront | CMYK, spot colors, PDF/X-4, imposition | No public pricing |
CHILI GraFx | SDK and automation platform | No | PDF/X-4, PDF/VT-1, CMYK, spot | Not on homepage |
Design Huddle | SDK and turnkey portal | Template and print tooling, no storefront | PDF, bleed, CMYK, variable data | Not published |
What to look for in an IMG.LY alternative
Four questions will tell you which section to read first.
Do you need a finished product or a toolkit? A platform gets you live faster. An SDK gives you more control and more work.
Do you need native mobile editors? IMG.LY ships native iOS and Android SDKs. Most alternatives here are web-first.
What does the print file have to look like? If your press needs CMYK, spot colors, bleed or PDF/X, check that before anything else.
What does the full cost look like? A quote covers the license. Developer time for pricing, preflight and orders is on top.
If you want real numbers for that last question, run them through our ROI calculator.
1. Polotno SDK: best for teams that want a lighter, self-hosted editor

Polotno is a JavaScript library for building canvas editors. It leans toward quick integration and developer control, and it can run fully self-hosted.
What it provides
A fully white-label editor, with the UI customizable from colors to layout, built on React.
An open, JSON-based design format and an API for programmatic template filling and bulk rendering.
Print support documented in its PDF export and page bleed docs: bleed set per page, crop marks, CMYK export, and PDF/X-1a through a Node-only package. On its own comparison page, Polotno also lists spot colors and PDF/X-4.
Self-hosted editing and rendering, with no data sent to Polotno's servers. Enterprise agreements can include a source code license.
Pricing: a free 30-day trial on development servers, then custom pricing that Polotno describes as ranging from low hundreds to 20,000 to 30,000 and above for large rollouts.
What to watch: storefront and ordering are out of scope. On mobile, Polotno works through a WebView rather than native SDKs, so you build and maintain the native bridge. Polotno's own page says IMG.LY is stronger for advanced video, mobile and desktop parity, and complex print workflows.
Versus IMG.LY: a smaller, web-first editor with a lower starting price and full control over where it runs. It suits a developer team that doesn't need native mobile SDKs.
2. Picsart Web to Print Editor: best for AI image tools inside an embedded editor

Picsart's Web to Print Editor is an embeddable SDK aimed at print businesses. It sits in the same category as CE.SDK, and Picsart publishes its own comparison against IMG.LY.
What it provides
An embeddable editor with a GUI, plus atomic API services for backend or frontend use.
2,000+ print product designs and a Template Studio for building your own templates.
AI tools including Ultra Upscale (up to 16x), Ultra Enhance, 20+ filters, background removal and image upscaling.
Print-ready PDF output and white-label support.
Customers listed on its site include PopSockets, Walsworth, Docupost, Tervis and Streetshirts.
Pricing: from $299 a month for 10,000 credits. A cheaper Photo Print Editor starts at $99 a month, and enterprise plans are custom. Plans have free trials and no long-term contracts.
What to watch: Picsart's public pages don't list a pricing engine, preflight, 3D preview or order management, and the editor needs developer integration to reach production. File formats beyond PDF aren't spelled out. We've broken this down in our DesignO vs Picsart comparison.
Versus IMG.LY: a published entry price and built-in AI image tools, but less detail on print color handling (CMYK, spot colors, PDF/X) than IMG.LY publishes, and no native mobile SDKs listed.
3. DesignO: best for print businesses that want to go live without building a platform

DesignO from DesignNBuy is a web-to-print product designer that comes with the surrounding system already in place. Where IMG.LY gives your developers an editor to build with, DesignO ships as a working personalization platform you connect to your store.
What it provides
An automated pricing engine with quantity-based and square-unit pricing (feet and inches).
Custom options such as dropdowns, radio buttons, checkboxes, image dropdowns and swatches, with show and hide logic.
Integrated preflight with Enfocus, and a 3D preview close to what the customer gets at checkout.
Order and job management, with collaboration between the client and your internal team.
1,000+ packaging models with dielines and live 3D, plus multi-part products such as booths and canopies where each panel has its own size, print area and template.
Full photo book support: pricing, personalization and output.
Ready extensions for Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and Magento, an API for ERP, MIS or CRM connections, and an embed snippet for any other storefront.
White-label admin and client portals, plus AI tools such as an outline generator, product angle correction, image outpainting and an AI Visualizer.
Quick example: We see the same pattern with print shops that switch. Errors come from the gap between the editor and the order. Ribbons Galore cut custom order errors by 70% once design, options and pricing lived in one flow. Read their story.
Pricing: $90 a month (Starter, merchandise personalization) or $190 a month (Growth, adds print products, preflight, 3D preview and API access). Packaging and photo book are add-on modules, and a perpetual license is available on quote. A free demo and free proof of concept are available.
What to watch: Preflight, 3D preview and API access need the Growth plan, and packaging and photo book cost extra as modules. If you're a software company adding photo or video editing to your own app, or you need native iOS and Android editors, IMG.LY is built for that and DesignO isn't.
Versus IMG.LY: DesignO covers what CE.SDK leaves to your team: catalog connection, pricing, product options, file preflight and order management. See the full breakdown in our IMG.LY vs DesignO comparison.
Want to see it on your own products first? We'll build a free proof of concept on your catalog.
4. PrintXpand: best for teams that want a full platform they can self-host

PrintXpand is a full web-to-print platform, and its online product designer is the part most comparable to an editor SDK.
What it provides
A white-label, browser-based designer with AI image generation, 1,000+ clipart assets and real-time 3D preview.
A live pricing engine that updates as the design changes.
Print area, bleed and safe-zone management with resolution checking.
Export to PDF, PNG, SVG and Adobe Illustrator.
Product types including apparel, promo items, signage, stationery and packaging.
Integrations with Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, OpenCart, PrestaShop and Odoo, plus a REST API.
Deployment as managed cloud (PX Cloud, PX Cloud+) or self-hosted with full source code (PX On-Premise).
PrintXpand reports 350+ print businesses in 40+ countries. That figure is the vendor's own.
Pricing: not published. A free proof of concept is offered.
What to watch: with no published pricing, you can't budget until you talk to sales. Its design tool page covers resolution, bleed and safe-zone checks but doesn't name a preflight engine or spell out CMYK and spot color handling. If your press needs those, ask for a sample output file before you sign.
Versus IMG.LY: you get the editor plus pricing logic, ecommerce plugins and an optional source-code license, but no native iOS or Android editors and no photo or video editing.
Versus DesignO: PrintXpand is the closest match to DesignO on this list. Pick PrintXpand if you need the source code on your own servers. Pick DesignO if you want published plan pricing and Enfocus preflight built in.
5. Customer's Canvas: best for variable data and production-file automation

Customer's Canvas, from Aurigma, sits between the platform and SDK camps. It's an embeddable customization editor with a lot of print-production tooling behind it.
What it provides
Several editor styles: freehand, form-based, upload and option-based.
Built-in preflight, variable data personalization, mockups and 3D product visualization.
Print features including CMYK, spot colors, embellishments, engraving, cut lines, PDF/X-4 output, imposition and production file generation.
Print, apparel, promo items, packaging, direct mail, signage, large format, labels and boxes.
Integrations with Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento and Order Desk, plus webhooks, FTP and cloud storage.
Cloud as the main offering, with on-premises deployment for compliance needs.
Pricing: no public pricing.
What to watch: it's web-only, with no native mobile SDKs, according to IMG.LY's comparison. InDesign templates come in through IDML conversion, and unrecognized elements are dropped. Setup involves developer work.
Versus IMG.LY: it covers production work that CE.SDK leaves to you, such as imposition and variable data workflows, but it gives up IMG.LY's native mobile and video reach.
Versus DesignO: Both handle variable data printing and mass customization. Customer's Canvas suits teams with developers who want to wire its editor and production tooling into their own systems, and it offers on-premises deployment. DesignO comes ready to sell, with a pricing engine, a storefront and published plan pricing. Pick Customer's Canvas if you're building a custom stack. Pick DesignO if you want to go live without one. Here's our full Customer's Canvas comparison.
6. CHILI GraFx: best for creative automation at enterprise scale

CHILI GraFx calls itself a creative automation platform ("Create, Automate, Publish"). It's aimed more at brands, agencies, retailers and direct mail providers than at a small print shop.
What it provides
Smart templates where authors control what end users may change.
An API-first setup with a connector framework for data integration.
Print output in PDF/X-4 and PDF/VT-1, with CMYK, spot and Lab colors, embedded ICC profiles, die cuts and registration color. A 2026 update added RGB to CMYK conversion during PDF export.
Variable data printing, direct mail automation and web-to-print automation.
A free trial.
Pricing: not shown on its homepage.
What to watch: IMG.LY's comparison describes it as cloud-only with no native mobile SDKs, and says its authoring UI is licensed separately. Check both points with CHILI directly.
Versus IMG.LY: the better fit if the real job is producing hundreds of consistent print variants from one template. It's less of a general-purpose editor you embed in your own product.
7. Design Huddle: best for template automation with a turnkey option

Design Huddle offers digital, print, video and slide templates, and three ways to deploy them: a hosted turnkey portal, an editor embedded in your site, or headless API output.
What it provides
An embeddable editor customized through a JavaScript SDK and APIs, plus a white-label portal with your name, logo, colors and domain.
Print templates for multi-page, large-format, product and sticker projects, with bleed and CMYK support.
PDF import that turns existing print designs into editable templates, and template locking on any element.
Variable data printing, such as unique names and addresses on mailers in one print run.
Smart templates with zones and placeholders, plus a review and approval workflow.
Headless generation of graphics, print files, PDFs and videos, in-editor AI tools (text-to-image, background removal, upscaling) and an MCP server for AI assistants.
Pricing: no prices on its homepage; it links to a pricing page.
What to watch: the homepage describes a mobile web experience, not native mobile apps or SDKs. Its print section lists bleed and CMYK support in two slightly different ways, and it doesn't state export formats beyond PDF, so confirm print specs with a sample file. There's no storefront or order management listed.
Versus IMG.LY: it adds a hosted turnkey option and template-first workflows for non-designers, but without IMG.LY's native iOS and Android SDKs.
How to choose
Fast recap:
You have developers and want a lighter editor: Polotno or Picsart.
You want to launch fast with minimal development: DesignO or PrintXpand.
You run variable data, direct mail or imposition workflows: Customer's Canvas, CHILI GraFx or Design Huddle.
You need native iOS and Android editors, or photo and video editing: IMG.LY itself is still the strongest fit on this list.
IMG.LY still makes sense if you're a software company adding creative editing to your own product. The alternatives above are for print businesses that need more than an editor, or less engineering to get to launch.
If you're in the second group, book a demo and we'll walk through your setup.
